Hello, my name is Evelyn Heselbarth, a self-taught artist born and raised in St. Louis. Art and creating art have always been a part of my life. From as early as I can remember, I have had either a pencil or a paintbrush in my hand. My father was an artist and always encouraged me to try new mediums and find inspiration in the most imaginative ways. He would tell me stories of magical butterflies and other animals, which sparked my interest. It brought me such joy to create as a child and to see how happy my work made others.

During COVID, I unfortunately lost my father, and with that, my aspiration. Life was bleaker than it ever had been, and I felt nothing could fill the void left in my heart. But one day I decided to pick up my pencil and paintbrush again, and everything changed. I slowly started to feel like myself again through creating art and my family’s support. I started to feel the same joy when creating as I did as a child, and it began to heal me from the inside out.

Now my goal is to share the joy and healing that art can bring to others. Through my work, I want to bring brightness to your home. I love working with a variety of media when creating, but my favorites are still drawing with colored pencil and marker, or painting with acrylic, oil, or gouache. I aim to create scenes grounded in reality but also slightly magical. Artwork that is quiet, joyful, peaceful, but also sometimes loud and bold. Pieces that remind you to reflect on a moment in time and the relationships in your life.
